LFQ2.1 – Landfill at Living as Form

On opening day of Living as Form, an exhibition on socially engaged practices organized by Creative Time in September 2011, participants constructed individualized issues of Landfill Quarterly using ephemera from projects that could be found at the Historic Essex Street Market. A small journal issue, LFQ 1.5, contained descriptions of featured materials: a haves/needs flyer from OurGoods, an issue of Megawords magazine, and a passing card from Ghana Think Tank. After taking a copy and a clear plastic bag, visitors collected what they could find and then returned to an ephemera photo booth where they had portraits of their collections printed and given out. The pictures completed visitors’ improvised issues, and were mailed to subscribers along with LFQ Issue 2: Ballpark Figures.
